How to find Windows Product Key using Command Prompt or PowerShell

For some years now, computer manufacturers have stopped attaching the Certificate of Authenticity sticker to computers, this used to be below the computer, it is this sticker that usually contains the windows product key. In recent time, this keys are built in the systems BIOS or UEFI.

How to Find Windows Product Key

Many might want to get their product keys due to some reasons or might just want to get it down in their notes. This can prove difficult though because there is no easy access to it. We’ll quickly walk you through on how to get windows product key using windows command prompt or PowerShell.

Find Windows Product Key using Command Prompt

find-windows-keys

From Menu search for cmd, right click and run as administrator. In command prompt, enter the following;

wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

And there you have your product key.

Find Windows Product Key using PowerShell

find-windows-product-key

Open a PowerShell windows with administrative privileges, type the following command and hit Enter;

powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

And there you have your product key.

This tutorial will only work for Windows 10/8.1/7/Vista.
